"No hoof, no horse... "
This phrase stuck with me from early in my career, and over the years,
I have realized time and again how true this is and how important it is
that our horses are allowed to feel good on healthy, well cared for
and optimally shod hooves!
From an early age on I grew up with horses. My mother had always bred horses - Arabians and Trakehner - near Cologne, Germany, and so animals,
especially horses, were a part of my life, as natural as food and drink.
Since I was able to ride before I could walk my love of horses (and dressage)
was maintained during my school years. I decided early on that I was going
to work with horses professionally. To me, the farrier profession provides the ideal combination of the opportunity to work a solid craft and have contact with horses.
The fact that I am an active rider myself, enables me to be able to evaluate
and consider the special riding demands when shoeing a horse.
After completing a steel erector apprenticeship, I began a farrier apprenticeship
with Ulf Schwarma.
In 2002, the Welzerberg Horse Shoeing Forge
became a recognized training
and apprenticeship facility.
In November 2006 I obtained the owner-trainer license for the training
of race horses, an activity that I actively pursue, and I have been
shoeing German championship horses for some years.
